ABOUT myself. It is only fair that I provide some personal information so you know who's doing the talking. Here I am, exposed for all the world to see.

For as long as I can remember I was fascinated with der blinken lighten und der whirrin noisin. After an assembly in sixth grade where we saw a demonstration of a Jacobs Ladder, I parked my fears and approached the demonstrator asking him how that amazing device worked. He explained transformers and primary and secondary windings to me and I couldn't wait to get home to try it out.

I rummaged through my treasure box and readied an iron core, a pair of television rabbit ears someone had been foolish enough to throw away, various sizes of wire and a electrical cord from a broken radio I'd saved from certain destruction in the trash. I grabbed the core and hastily wrapped the primary using #12 bell wire, perhaps a full hundred loops around the core. Salivating in restless anticipation, I carefully prepared the secondary with much finer wire losing count somewhere after about 6 or 7 hundred windings.

I soldered the primary ends to the power cord, screwed the secondaries carefully to the rabbit ears, took a deep breath, smiled and proudly plugged in my technological wonder. Nothing happened. Nothing. No grand sparks zapping their way to the top of the V formed by the metal poles of the rabbit ears. No sound worthy of a new and improved Frankenstein movie. Just nothing. A cold chill ran down my spine. I jerked the plug out of the wall, gathered the evidence of my work into my box, threw it all into the closet and slammed the door.

The whole event had slipped my mind later when after dinner I returned to my room and flipped on the light switch. I stared into the room. The darkness stared back in defiance. Uh oh. I approached my father with pure innocence pasted carefully on my face and told him my light wouldn't turn on. It took him several fuses and about an hour to narrow the problem down to the very wall socket I had used in my experiment. I was so glad he couldn't see my face in the dim glow of the flashlight as he discovered the whole electrical box was an almost solid fused mass of once molten metal. He never could figure out how that had happened and I never felt it necessary to explain. Thus ended my first grand experiment with technology. I have learned a great deal since then and have a very successful track record:

  • More than 12 years experience with personal computers.

  • Earned CNE certification (Certified Novell Engineer) in 1996.

  • Worked with a group successfully upgrading over 1500 workstations at Hugh's Satellite Division (now Raytheon) in El Sugundo, CA.

  • Functioned as the IT department (Information Technology) at ABBA Rubber in Ontario, CA for 6 years.

  • Upgraded original ABBA hardware and software from 486's, DOS and Windows For Workgroups to Windows 2000, initiating security procedures and installing appropriate hardware and software checkpoints and virus and intrusion mechanisms.

  • Maintained company databases, computers and network including NT4 servers, Netware 3.5 servers, PC’s, Proxy Server, T-1, firewall, and digital phone system.

  • Responsible for staff training on software use including Windows, MS Office, CRM, and accounting software and helped modernize work order process and forms.

  • Installed data backup hardware and procedures and maintained daily backups.

  • Created marketing letters, presentations, advertisements, and graphics for website and magazine ads.

  • Designed and created ABBA's web site, email marketing templates (example 1, example 2, example 3, example 4,) and created and maintained statistical reports.

  • My intention is to provide professional technical support to the local communities of the San Gorgonio pass area at reasonable rates. My full resume available upon request.
